Historical Records Added in the Second Half of July 2023

In the second half of July 2023, we added 3.8 million records from 8 historical record collections. The collections are from Finland and several U.S. states and contain marriage, death, and school records. In case you missed it, be sure to check out our updates from the first half of July 2023. In total, we added close to 15 million historical records in July 2023.

Finland, Karelia Deaths and Burials

This collection contains death and burial records from the Karelia region in Finland between the years 1686 and 1961. Records typically include the name of the deceased, date of birth, place of residence, date of death, date of burial, and the name of the father of the deceased. Records may also include names of additional relatives.

Karelia is an area in Northern Europe of historical significance for Russia (including the Soviet era), Finland, and Sweden. It is currently divided between Finland and Russia. The Republic of Karelia is a federal subject of Russia formed in 1991 from the Karelian ASSR. The Karelian Isthmus belongs to the Leningrad Oblast. The Finnish side consists of parts of the regions of South Karelia, North Karelia, and Kymenlaakso.

Indiana, Central Normal College Students

This collection contains records of students from the Central Normal College of Indiana, United States between the years 1877 and 1935. Records typically include the name of the student, residence, and the year they graduated.

The Central Normal College was initially located in Ladoga, Indiana but relocated to Danville, Indiana in 1878, remaining under that name until 1946. In 1947, it underwent reorganization and became known as Canterbury College, which lasted until 1951 when it ceased operations.
