MyHeritage Adds 17.4 Million Historical Records in November 2023

In November 2023 we published 17.4 million historical records from 36 historical record collections from Australia, Belgium, the Channel Islands, England, France, Germany, Scotland, Sweden, Switzerland, and the United States. The records include obituaries, marriages, court records, deaths, tax registrations, births, census registers, and emigration records. Some of the collections also include images. Australia, Queensland, Rockhampton Burials

This collection contains burial records from Rockhampton, Queensland, Australia from the year 1864 onwards. Records typically include the name of the deceased, date of death, age at the time of death, date and place of burial and information about the burial.

Belgium, Aalst Population Registers

This collection contains records of population registers conducted in Aalst, Belgium between the years 1796 and 1881. Records typically include the name of the individual, the date and place of birth, and the age and residence at the time the population register was conducted.

The municipality of Aalst includes the villages of Baardegem, Erembodegem, Gijzegem, Herdersem, Hofstade, Meldert, Moorsel, and Nieuwerkerken.

Channel Islands, Jersey, Occupation Registration Cards

This collection contains occupation registration records from the Bailiwick of Jersey, a self-governing island that is regarded as a Crown Dependency of the United Kingdom, between the years 1940 and 1945. Records typically include the name of the individual, the date and place of birth, the place of residence, and the occupation.

The Occupation Registration Cards from Jersey offer a unique historical perspective on life during the German Occupation in the 1940s. Under German control, residents were compelled to register, resulting in cards that included personal information. These cards were regularly updated, and children received their own cards at the age of fourteen.

England, Cumberland and Lancashire Burials

This collection contains burial records from the counties of Cumberland and Lancashire, England from the year 1728 onwards. Records typically include the name of the deceased, the place of death, and the date and place of burial.

France Deaths

This collection is a death index of French citizens and nationals released by the National Institute of Statistics and Economic Studies (French: Institut national de la statistique et des études économiques) abbreviated INSEE. The index contains each deceased person’s full name, gender, date and place of birth, and date and place of death. This index will be helpful to genealogists looking for more information about their French family members who passed away since the early 1970s.

The number of deaths reported and contained in this collection for the years 1970 and 1971 are well below expected counts and this is likely due to a ramp-up in compliance by local French offices reporting deaths to INSEE during these two years. In this collection the number of deaths reported for 1970 appear to be only about 8% of actual and for 1971 the number is about 50% of actual. By 1972 nearly comprehensive reporting was achieved across France and its territories.

While most of the birthplaces and death places are in France there are over 2.5 million records in this collection of persons who were born or died in other countries — with neighboring and nearby countries (such as Belgium, Germany, Spain, Italy, and Poland) and countries which were former French colonies (such as Algeria, Morocco, Tunisia, Madagascar, and Vietnam) being most common.

Germany, Rhineland Emigrants, 1814-1939

This collection contains records of emigrants departing from the Rhineland region of Germany between the years 1814 and 1939. Records typically include the name of the emigrant, year of birth, place of origin, year of departure, and emigration destination.

The field “Property holder type” includes various categories of individuals. “Landholder” represents those who held land by lease or deed, “Inmate” refers to married or widowed individuals without land who worked as contract laborers, “Freeman” signifies single, free men aged at least 21, and “Nonresident Landowner” indicates ownership of unseated (unoccupied) land.

The recent addition of the New Jersey Births, 1901-1929 collection to MyHeritage has brought to light an interesting find: the birth record of Richard Anderson. Born on August 8, 1926, in Long Branch, Monmouth, New Jersey, Anderson went on to become a well-known actor in American film and TV. He’s best remembered for his role as Oscar Goldman in the popular TV shows “The Six Million Dollar Man” and “The Bionic Woman” during the 1970s.
