Bastille Day, celebrated on July 14, marks the anniversary of the storming of the Bastille in 1789, a pivotal event of the French Revolution. Today, it is France’s national holiday and a celebration of the country’s history and culture.
The France, Tables of Successions and Absences, 1890–1970 collection is an index of individuals who died or were officially declared missing in France between 1890 and 1970. Records typically include the individual’s name, date and place of death, age at death, and the name of a spouse. Some records also include the date and place of birth, residence, parents’ names, and a reference to an inheritance file.
Originally created for tax and inheritance purposes, these records are now an excellent resource for family history research. They can help confirm dates and places, identify family relationships, and lead you to additional records that provide even more information about your relatives.
