Examples

In the Nevada, Clark County Marriages collection, we find a record that’s sure to catch the eye: the marriage certificate of Benjamin Geza Affleck and Jennifer Lopez.

Even though this particular collection doesn’t include images, the text details alone are fascinating. The couple, well-known in Hollywood circles, tied the knot on July 17, 2022, in Clark County, Nevada. This record, officially filed on August 1, 2022, is more than just a piece of celebrity trivia; it’s an example of how often modern records can be just as captivating as historical ones.

Next, we found a record in the United States, Mexican-American War Soldiers and Sailors collection detailing the early military career of Ulysses Simpson Grant, who would later become the 18th President of the United States.

Grant, born around 1822 in Ohio, enlisted as a soldier at the young age of 24. His record from July 1, 1843, at West Point, New York, notes his initial rank as a 2nd Lieutenant in the Infantry’s 4th Regiment. What stands out in this record are the notes of his rapid promotions in September 1847, a clear sign of his emerging leadership and military skill.
