MyHeritage Sponsors Epic El Clasico Football Match Between Barcelona Legends and Real Madrid Legends

MyHeritage was the sponsor of an epic football game between some of the greatest footballers in history at the El Clasico game in Tel Aviv on July 20, 2021. The match pitted Barcelona Legends against Real Madrid Legends, placing 36 superstars on the field, including the likes of Ronaldinho, Rivaldo, Roberto Carlos, and Luis Figo.

40 MyHeritage employees were there to witness the magic. When the players emerged onto the field, the excitement was palpable. Every football fan, in the stadium or watching on TV, knew that this match was going to be one of the most important games in European football — an experience every sports fan has dreamed of attending. Millions of fans around the world tuned in to watch the match.

For MyHeritage, sponsoring a game so steeped in nostalgia, starring football legends from years past, was a natural choice. In the long lines at the entrance to the stadium, fathers who had adored these stars as children stood with their kids, passing on the legacy to the next generation. As the main sponsor, MyHeritage’s presence was strongly felt around the field, with colorful banners clearly visible throughout the game. A wonderful video appeared on the screens featuring passers-by trying out MyHeritage and making incredible discoveries about their families on the spot.

This is not the first time MyHeritage has collaborated with football legends: we partnered with various teams as part of a special project ahead of the 2018 World Cup.

As for the game itself, the expectations were sky-high, and the players certainly delivered. This prestigious game and the traditional rivalry between these two legendary teams brought out the best in the football stars, and they gave it everything they had throughout the game. Ronaldinho — the star who shone the brightest, then and now — scored the first goal, to the delight of his many fans.

But the most powerful moment of the game was one that had nothing to do with the game itself: a young teen burst onto the field to give a hug to the Brazilian star. Ronaldinho was moved by the gesture and hugged his fan back.

Seeing these extraordinary stars many of us watched growing up playing in the uniforms of our favorite teams was an indescribable experience. We are honored to have had the chance to sponsor this game.
