MyHeritage CEO Gilad Japhet Addresses RootsTech 2020

We have just returned from RootsTech, the world’s largest and most popular family history conference. MyHeritage made quite the buzz at the conference, showcasing exciting new and recently released features. On Friday, February 28, MyHeritage Founder and CEO Gilad Japhet spoke at the MyHeritage sponsored luncheon in front of a full crowd.

You can watch the full video of Gilad’s address here:

Gilad began by dedicating his talk to his mother. At the end of the day, family history is all about family. Gilad attributes his love for genealogy to his mother. He fondly remembers all the deep conversations they have shared over the years about history, archeology, and the Bible, all of which contributed to his passion for genealogy. He told the crowd a little about this extraordinary woman and shared a heartwarming tribute video he and his family members recently created for his mother’s 85th birthday.

Next, Gilad revealed the story behind MyHeritage In Color™: how the idea was conceived during a company-wide “hackathon,” how the technology was sourced, and a little about how it works. He also shared his commitment to authenticity as a genealogist and how that inspired him to add an AI symbol to every colorized photo, making it clear that the colors were artificially reproduced. Gilad explained that this decision was applauded by the scientific community.

Gilad also spoke about MyHeritage’s new U.S. City Directories collection: how the collection was parsed and indexed and what it can do for MyHeritage users.

Finally, Gilad spoke about the all-new Fan View for family trees and explained the advantages of this convenient and compact new view.

Gilad also alluded to some exciting new developments on the product roadmap, and emphasized that MyHeritage is constantly innovating… so stay tuned!
