Family Tree Builder 3 released with new research, matching and publishing features

We’ve just released the new version of our popular genealogy software “Family Tree Builder” (it has been downloaded more than 4 Million times so far). It now includes amazing new features, like “Smart Match Merge”: the merging from data between trees with Smart Matches. Or the automatic research of all the people in your tree.

And the publishing features are greatly extended: You can now also upload all your family videos and documents and publish them on your MyHeritage family site.
The newly released advanced features now require a Premium family site, but everything else in Family Tree Builder continues to be completely free.

I love the new features, but can’t for the life of me understand why the ‘Select Display language’ screen appears everytime I start Family Tree builder.

    Hi,

First of all thank you so much for your amazing website. I really enjoy uploading pictures and all.

But I live in Morocco and there is no way for me to pay in order to get the premium version. I really badly would like to add videos, but this option is not available in the basic version.
Is there hope that you can make the video option free please?

    Thank you.

I have not yet downloaded the newest version of My Heritage, because while visiting family over the recent holidays, I showed some relatives how to download and start to build their own Family Trees based on my initial version of our family’s tree, and I then realized that the newer version was so much different than the original version which I had used to start my family tree. For example, I really liked many of the features of the original version, including being able to add “nicknames”, “aliases”, “facts” (such as occupations & military service, etc.), “notations”, etc. When I tried to figure out the newer version at my relatives’ house, I could not find how to incorporate many of the previous options that I really liked. Why was the original My Heritage Family Tree builder changed to eliminate some of the original features?

I want to thank Gilad Japhet for sending a FIX for the problem I had with the “Select Display Language” screen coming up on activation of Family Tree Builder.
It worked great and it opens a lot faster now also. I guess it was a Windows Vista thing!

Another suggestion I have is to put a ‘guest book’ menu selection in the header of MyHeritage Family web sites. Just a thought!

    Cheers for the great work.

Oh, joy, even MORE Obama promotion! Here’s a thought: Maybe, just maybe, people come here to work on their family tree, not to see the grown-up version of Hannah Montanna fan mania.

I am very interested in trying your system, but I am a MAC user. 🙁

    Dear Susan,

Our Family Tree Builder software does not have a Mac version yet.

If you are a Mac user and would like to build your family tree, we recommend doing this online on MyHeritage.com. Our online tools do support the Mac, using the Firefox or Safari browsers.

    Hope that helps!

I am so happy to have found your Family Tree Builder software. The SmartMatch and Merge are wonderful! Just one “feature” I would like… I would like the colors used for direct decendants to be different. So, one might be in a distant branch we can easily find the connections to our branch. Would make navigating so much better and following a branch back “home” a snap.

I recently started using this software and really like what it offers. Today, however, whenever I launch it it returns an error…”(software) has stopped working…Windows is checking for a solution” and you must close program. I see that the MyHeritage website is down for maintenance. Does this have any connection? I have Vista 64-bit system. Thanks!

    Dear K,

It sounds like it may be a problem with your computer rather than with the site, but I will pass on your query to the support team so they can look into it!

    Hope that helps!

I recenty downloaded Family Tree Builder and am doing the family tree on both sides for my children. I noticed that my aunt who we recently lost, had all her research records on here.
To merge files I realize you have to go upgrade to Premium but what I need to know using that feature do you have to get permission for the person who’s site it is on in order to merge?
Or will I be able to get my aunts records with just merging the files?
    Thank you
