Deep Nostalgia™ Reaches Milestone of 26 Million Animations!

Deep Nostalgia™ Reaches Milestone of 26 Million Animations!

In only 11 days, millions of people have created 26 million animations using Deep Nostalgia™! This groundbreaking new photo feature allows you to animate the faces of your loved ones in still photos and has taken the internet by storm.

The MyHeritage mobile app makes it easy to animate your photos, and it has become more popular than ever. It’s holding strong as the number one free iPhone app in the U.S. on the Apple Store for 7 days and counting! The MyHeritage app is also ranked number one on the iOS App Store for the U.K., Austria, Belgium, Brazil, France, Mexico, and New Zealand, and is the number two app in Canada, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Spain, Switzerland, and Australia. We’ve reached number one in 22 countries! We’ve also reached the top 5 in 43 countries, and the top 10 in 55 countries.

Deep Nostalgia™ continues to captivate people from all over the globe and enrich their connection with the past. Each day, we’ve been thrilled to see the number of animations that have been created, and we’re proud of each milestone that we’ve reached along the way. We are blown away by the unbelievable feedback and coverage that we’ve received. The outpouring of enthusiasm is so huge that we’ve needed to write multiple posts sharing the responses we received, first with some initial reactions and then again a few days later.

Today we celebrate International Women’s Day: a day to honor women past, present, and future and remember how the courage, intelligence, and grit of women throughout history have brought us to where we are today. Using Deep Nostalgia™, we animated the faces of 12 inspiring women in history from all over the world. Watching these powerful women in motion helps us feel more connected to them, and inspires us to follow their example, stand up for our values, and pursue our dreams.

User Feedback

We continue to be touched by the feedback that is pouring in. Many users have reached out to us expressing their heartfelt gratitude after getting a glimpse into their ancestors’ lives, and the emotions this has evoked.

MyHeritage user Kathleen Batty from Australia says “It was so wonderful to do this! My mum died when I was two, so don’t remember her. It made her seem more real to me. Thank you!”

Emma Devine from the U.K. told us about how special the pictures that she animated of her mother using Deep Nostalgia™ have been to her and her family. “My mum passed away in 2018 from cancer aged 78. We only knew 2 weeks before she passed, she had been admitted to the hospital less than a week before. We managed to get her home to care for her, and got to spend 6 heartbreaking days with her before she gained her wings. She has 7 children. A great woman, the perfect mum, whom we miss beyond measure. She has 16 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.” In the following animation, she was eighteen years old, on her wedding day, one of Emma’s favorite pictures of her.

After an especially difficult few years, Emma was comforted by the photo. “My dad passed 8 weeks after my mum, and my eldest sister passed 8 months after her. After 3 years of grieving, I bought my mum’s picture to life today. I sat here crying right now, but wow! I love it! …thank you from the bottom of my heart! XX”

Liliana Garcia Schultz says, “This technology is incredible! I used it with pictures of my grandmother who I never got to meet. It was a very emotional experience for my whole family. I will gladly pay for the membership. Totally worth it!”

Eliška Potužníková from Czechia exclaimed, “love it 😍 my 84-year-old grandma cried for joy when she saw her deceased twin-brother smiling! I think it’s necessary to pay tribute to your programmers. It’s like magic from Harry Potter for me… You are the best!”

Feedback on social media has been just as enthusiastic:

This has been a great tool to use in conjunction with Photoshop. I’ve used it with my life mask reconstructions of history. See the work with James Madison.

Really nice for someone you never knew and is long gone. For a close relation: a grandfather and father, in my case, it’s a little like, but not all that close, for it doesn’t know the mannerisms you know. For my great grandparents, it was interesting, and that’s where it’s an interesting tool. if you knew the person well, not so much.

We used it to create an animation from a Victorian painting of a seafaring ancestor. The result was amazing.
