MyHeritage Adds 123 Million Historical Records in April and May 2024

In April and May 2024, we published 123 million historical records from 18 collections. The newly added records are from the United States, Canada, Australia, the Netherlands, Sweden, Finland, Denmark, Iceland, Norway, Greenland, the Faroe Islands, Italy, Luxembourg, and England, and include birth records, marriage and divorce records, death and burial records, census records, voter lists, school registers, and telephone directories. Many of the collections also include images.

Our major historical record releases this past month include 3 new and important historical record collections from New York: New York City birth, marriage, and death records. These robust collections are some of the most significant vital records in the U.S. available online today. You can read more about this release in our blog post. Additionally, we have added 11.6 million new Nordic newspaper pages to OldNews.com, the innovative website for historical newspapers by MyHeritage. This index of historical local, regional and national newspapers, periodicals and gazettes comes from the Nordic nations and territories of Sweden, Denmark, Norway, Iceland, Greenland, Finland, and the Faroe Islands. It includes advanced optical character recognition (OCR) of articles dating back to 1666. The list was originally created by the New York City Board of Elections and published in the City Record, a daily government publication. Example

In the newly added 1905 Kansas State Census, we can see a record for Dwight Eisenhower. Born David Dwight Eisenhower and nicknamed “Ike,” he was an American military officer and statesman who served as the 34th president of the United States from 1953 to 1961. During World War II, Eisenhower was the Supreme Commander of the Allied Expeditionary Force in Europe. He planned and supervised pivotal operations, including the invasion of Normandy in 1944, and achieved the 5-star rank as General of the Army.

In this 1905 record, we see that Dwight Eisenhower was just 14 years old, providing a snapshot of his early life in Abilene, Kansas, before he became a key figure in world history. The household members listed include his parents, D. J. Eisenhower and Ida Eisenhower, along with his siblings A. Eisenhower, Edgar Eisenhower, Roy Eisenhower, Earl Eisenhower, and Milton Eisenhower.
