Our Research team found that Steve is connected to all 3 Founding Fathers through his 3rd-great-grandfather, Elijah M. Butterfield. Elijah served in the 13th Regiment of the New York Militia during the War of 1812. He died young, at just 34 years old, in 1827, in his hometown in Jefferson County — named after his relative, Thomas Jefferson, of course, in 1805.

“That is remarkable!” Steve exclaimed when Yvette Corporan surprised him with these findings on the air. “All this time I thought I was probably related to Sam Adams, the beer guy!” he laughed.

Yvette also pointed out that just like Steve, who published The Happy Cookbook with his wife, Martha Washington also authored a cookbook.

Steve was astounded at how easy it was to discover these fascinating details about his family’s past.
