New Historical Records Added in January and February 2022

2022 is off to a great start! Over the last two months, we’ve added 277 million new records from 34 new collections. From France, we’ve added Filae family tree profiles, civil birth and death collections from Val-de-Marne, an index of obituaries, and a Legion of Honour collection. From Norway, we have added a death registrations collection. Just this week, we published 5.8 million Jewish historical records from 28 historical record collections through a collaboration with JewishGen. With this update, the total number of records on MyHeritage has climbed to 16.8 billion. Many of the collections include high-quality scans of the original images alongside MyHeritage’s rich index.

Filae Family Tree Records

We’re delighted to announce the addition of 269 million family tree profile records from Filae to the MyHeritage database of historical records. This announcement comes following MyHeritage’s acquisition of Filae last year, and the subsequent addition of 844 million exclusive historical records from Filae that have already been uploaded to MyHeritage. 

The Filae Family Tree Records collection is a compilation of lineage-linked tree profiles shared in a read-only mode to assist family historians in discovering rich details and important clues to advance their genealogical research.

Family tree profiles typically include first and last names, dates and places of births, marriages, and deaths. Individuals in this collection are typically linked to their parents, spouse(s), siblings, and children. This collection is significant for anyone with French roots, as they will likely be able to find information about their French ancestors within it and to connect with their French cousins. This collection is updated automatically to reflect changes made to the original trees on Filae by their respective submitters.

Family tree profiles are important, as they are often very detailed and can help you discover or learn more about entire branches of your family. They also allow you to connect with the living relatives who manage these trees. Please treat them with caution as some users make mistakes when they construct their family trees.

Every tree profile contains a link back to the same record on Filae. Accessing the records on Filae requires a subscription to Filae, but this is an excellent way to browse the entire tree and to contact living family members who manage trees containing relevant information about your family.

Although the majority of the family tree profiles have been added by users located in France, you may also find tree profiles from other places in the world in this collection.

For privacy reasons, only deceased individuals will appear on search results on MyHeritage and in Record Matches with this collection.

France, Val-de-Marne, Civil Births

This collection contains civil births in the French department of Val-de-Marne from 1792 to 1900. Civil vital records were collected by government authorities in France starting in 1792. They contain many details such as the name of the child, their birth date, birthplace, and the names of the parents, including the mother’s maiden surname.

These births were usually recorded by the child’s father a few days after the child’s birth. If the father was absent, a relative or friend typically registered the birth in place of the father. Marginal notes may be found if a correction was made for a child born out of wedlock. If a child died at birth, you might only find them in the death indexes instead of in the birth registers.

This collection of one million records contains civil records of deaths in the French department of Val-de-Marne from 1792 to 1937. Civil vital records were collected by government authorities in France starting in 1792. They contain many details on the deceased, such as the name, birth date, birthplace, death date, and the names of the parents and the spouse when applicable.

These deaths were usually recorded within a day or two of the passing in the same town or city where the person died. Typically, these records will have two secondary individuals, and at least one of them will be a close relative of the decedent. The information recorded is subject to error as the informant might have had incorrect information. If a child was stillborn, you will find the child’s information in these records in the town where the stillbirth occurred. A soldier who died away from home can also be found in these records in the town where the soldier was born, but the record may not have been entered until a year or two after the death.

France, Legion of Honour

The National Order of the Legion of Honour is the highest civilian and military order of merit in France. Established in 1802 by Napoleon Bonaparte, it has been continuously maintained by all later French regimes and governments. This collection contains information on individuals accepted into the Legion of Honour since 1802 and who died before 1977. The index contains members’ names, birth places, and birth years. Additional details found on each record’s associated image can include full birth date, full death date, residence address, and information on their nomination to the Order.

The original files are kept in the Archives Nationales or at the Grand Chancery of the Legion of Honour.

France, Index of Obituaries and Funeral Notices

This collection of 5.6 million records is a consolidated index of obituaries and funeral notices published in France between 1910 and 2017. These records include the name of the deceased, their death date and place, the publication date and place, and the source of the publication.

Norway Death Registrations

This collection contains indexed death records from Norway from 1927 to 1941 and associated images of registers where these deaths were recorded. The indexed records, for each deceased person, contain their name, birthdate, gender, marital status, residence, death date, burial date, and burial location. The associated images contain additional information about the deceased person such as their occupation. Cause of death and religious affiliation (columns 12 and 13 on the associated images) have been redacted in accordance with Norwegian privacy and data protection regulations.

Ministers of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Norway were instructed to record all deaths occurring in their jurisdictions on the pre-printed register-style forms found in this collection. These were forwarded to the Central Bureau of Statistics and subsequently archived by the National Archives of Norway. The forms were organized by the National Archives by county or province, and only partly arranged by parish.
