Congratulations Prince Harry and Meghan Markle on the Engagement!

Congratulations Prince Harry and Meghan Markle on the Engagement!

We are very happy to congratulate Prince Harry and Meghan Markle on their engagement!

Prince Harry, who is fifth in line to the throne, proposed to his girlfriend Meghan Markle in London. The couple has been dating since 2016 after being introduced by mutual friends. Meghan Markle is a famous American actress in the popular television drama Suits.

Clarence House first announced their engagement — they plan to marry next spring. A statement from Clarence House said, “Prince Harry has informed Her Majesty the Queen and other close members of his family.”

Once they are married, Meghan Markle will become Her Royal Highness, Princess Henry of Wales, if Prince Harry maintains his current title. If Prince Harry becomes a Duke upon marriage, Meghan will become Meghan, Duchess of Sussex. The couple is set to live in Nottingham Cottage at Kensington Palace.

Meghan Markle has a strong passion for her family history and where she came from. When speaking about her biracial background, she wrote in ELLE Magazine, “While my mixed heritage may have created a grey area surrounding my self-identification, keeping me with a foot on both sides of the fence, I have come to embrace that. To say who I am, to share where I’m from, to voice my pride in being a strong, confident mixed-race woman.”

When speaking about her family tree and her ancestors she wrote, “You create the identity you want for yourself, just as my ancestors did when they were given their freedom. Because in 1865 (which is so shatteringly recent), when slavery was abolished in the United States, former slaves had to choose a name. A surname, to be exact.

“Perhaps the closest thing to connecting me to my ever-complex family tree, my longing to know where I come from, and the commonality that links me to my bloodline, is the choice that my great-great-great grandfather made to start anew. He chose the last name Wisdom. He drew his own box.”

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will announce their engagement to the world at Kensington Palace on Monday afternoon and will appear in a television broadcast that will be aired on Monday evening.

We are excited for them and their families and congratulate them on this special and iconic engagement!
