As 2017 begins, the genealogy world is looking forward to a great year of events and gatherings. Lectures, conferences, and appearances are already scheduled to talk about MyHeritage’s new features, the future of genealogy and general research.
The first event of the year will be in the USA at RootsTech 2017 (February 8-11; Salt Lake City, Utah) where more than 25 representatives of MyHeritage will be lecturing and answering questions in the exhibit hall, as well as providing mini-lectures about our newest features.
On March 18, 2017, we will be in Germany, at the 7. Westfälischer Genealogentag. In the Sporthalle Gooikerplatz (a sports hall) and the foyer of the Ludgerischule (a school) some 50 organizations, archives, and service providers will exhibit and offer beginners and advanced genealogists opportunities to meet with experts. This event is held every two years.
The MyHeritage team will arrive in Birmingham UK on April 6, 2017, to speak at the Who Do You Think You Are? LIVE event. Join our genealogist Laurence Harris and other country managers at our exhibit.
The 2017 New England Regional Genealogical Consortium (NERG) will be held April 26-29 at the MassMutual Center in Springfield, Massachusetts, and MyHeritage will be there. Wednesday will be filled with special tracks and events. Thursday, Friday, and Saturday will be the featured days of the conference with many presentations, a large exhibit hall, meals, networking, and plenty of “cousin finding”!
From May 9-13, the team will be at the National Genealogical Society Conference (NGS) in Raleigh, North Carolina. Choose from more than 175 sessions designed to help advance your research by learning about techniques and resources to discover your roots and build your family tree. Join our experts and genealogists from all over the US and beyond, visit MyHeritage booth and say hello to our team!
The Southern California Genealogical Jamboree, will be held in Burbank, California from June 8-11. More than a genealogy conference, we consider this event a family reunion. Bloggers and users from around the world get together for four days to talk, eat and joke about a serious business: Genealogy. We will be joined by our Geni team, whose offices are nearby. Please drop by our exhibit and say hello!
June is also a party in the southern hemisphere. The 22nd annual Festa do Imigrante in São Paulo, Brazil. Our Brazil country manager Karen Hägele will attend the Friday, Saturday, and Sunday event featuring over 80 communities from 35 nationalities, who are gathering to celebrate their culture. Last year, some 18,000 visitors attended. It also offers food, dance, music, history, crafts, and storytelling from around the world. There are workshops and performances, as well as a MyHeritage booth, where visitors can create family trees, research their past and meet the team.
This year, the IAJGS International Conference on Jewish Genealogy will be different, as the venue is Walt Disney World (July 23-28; Orlando, Florida). Our team will be available in the exhibit hall, and also lecturing during the week. Many of us will likely take a break after the conference and enjoy the park with our families. After all, that is what genealogy is all about.
We will be in Poland from August 19-25 to attend, by special invitation, the IFLA World Library and Information Congress. This is a fantastic opportunity to meet many librarians and archivists. We will have lots of time to demonstrate our library edition, which allows you to conduct research at your local library.
We are off to Sweden on August 26-27, when several thousand genealogists from near and far will convene at the Halmstad Arena for Släktforskardagarna 2017, a major meeting. Here, all those with roots in the coastal provinces will find inspiration. Anyone who is curious about the waterways, coastal guards and smugglers will be able to find out more. Descendants of customs officers, fishermen and farmers will discover new information to assist them in their family research. Släktfrskardagarna, which usually attracts 4,000-5,000 visitors, is a family history fair for all present and future genealogists. The MyHeritage team will be there sharing our information and innovative features and tools.
We will be back in Dresden, Germany, from September 22-25, 2017, for the 69th Deutscher Genealogentag (German Genealogy Day). It is the largest genealogy event in the German-speaking world. This year’s site, Dresden, is the cultural and provincial capital of Saxony. The host is the Dresdner Verein für Genealogie e.V., which will present genealogy and family research in a modern, future-oriented way. The organizer is the Deutsche Arbeitsgemeinschaft Genealogischer Verbände e.V. For more information, click here (in German).
There are so many places to meet our users and talk about genealogy, so start making your plans to join us. The MyHeritage team looks forward to meeting you around the world. Please stop by to say hello, take a selfie, and perhaps receive a nice surprise at the MyHeritage booth.
