NewspaperARCHIVE.com Collection Notice

NewspaperARCHIVE.com Collection Notice

We wanted to give our users a heads up that MyHeritage’s license of the newspaper content from NewspaperARCHIVE.com is about to expire next week. This means that on Tuesday, June 21, 2016, the collection will be de-published (withdrawn) from MyHeritage. In addition, pending Record Matches from this collection will be removed. Confirmed Record Matches that were saved to family trees will remain in place.

MyHeritage is currently in negotiations with NewspaperARCHIVE.com to enter into a new license in order to keep this collection on MyHeritage. If these efforts are successful and the content is relicensed, then it will be reloaded onto MyHeritage and the Record Matches will return, and all links to newspaper records that were saved into family trees will continue to work. This will work well even if the newspaper content will be de-published for a while, and then return.

We advise users who have pending Record Matches from this collection, to view them before Tuesday, and to confirm as many of them as possible and extract their value into their family trees.

This does not affect other newspaper collections on MyHeritage such as Trove from Australia and Jewish Chronicle from the UK.

Thanks,
The MyHeritage Team

When confirming matches I find the ability to add more information or improved information from the other family’s tree very helpful, except; I would like to be able to pick and choose which items I want to add to my tree. For instance, I don’t always want to add children of extended family.

    Thanks for that info.
I hope the negotiating for a new license will come to a good end.

I sure hope it stays because living in Illinois it’s not easy to get articles from other states. Sure I can subscribe directly with them but with My Heritage they do the searching for me which makes research faster and easier.

Please renew the license. MyHeritage’s search method is superior to Ancestry’s of same collection.

Unfortunately, if this goes as Ancestry did–it used to have the Historical newspapers (Newspapers.com) as part of its regular database, but it separated it off into a second site that needed a second subscription to access them, but still does not have the Full Collection from that site.

If MyHeritage does the same thing, beware, as different sites have different collections and different search engines from the same Archive.

As an alternative, you can get a reduced World Vitals Records subscription from Southern California Genealogy Society at which also carries NewpaperArchives.com. But different search engine. It’s free with their $35/year membership.

Check some online libraries–if you have a large library nearby and are a member, you may be able to access offline.

A few days is not enough to gather all my Record Matches for newspaper archives and download the content. But will find somewhere else to access these archives and diminish my use and visitation of MyHeritage Records.

Oh, NewspaperArchives.com is free at most LDS Family History Centers.

God bless you for making those publications available to us! You have helped my research immensely! I will pray that negotiations go well!

Very unfortunate. This was a key reason I extended my subscription. Most databases on MyHeritage can be accessed for free elsewhere – this was an exception and increased the value of a MyHeritage subscription. Reminiscent of losing Findagrave as a Record Match a few years back, though again, that is free elsewhere.
Well, hope you can reinstate NewspaperArchive.

This was the main reason I subscribed. Hope it’s resolved soon.
