Poll: Family sports

The World Cup is now in full swing, and millions of families around the world are getting together to watch soccer games, and to root for their favorite team.

For some families, supporting a specific team is mandatory, and it's passed down through the generations, like DNA. Some fans root for their home team, based on where they live or have lived at one point, while others choose a team based on other criteria.

Do you and your family all root for the same sports teams? Let us know in the poll below!

FIFA World Cup: A global game

Fuleco the Armadillo is the official mascot of the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil.

This year's FIFA World Cup is just starting in Brazil. Soccer is one of the top sports in the world, and the number one sport in most countries outside of the U.S. It's an international sport, and one of the most exciting games to watch.

Brazil is hosting the World Cup for the second time, after hosting the 1950 World Cup. Games will be held in 12 different stadiums across the country. The championship has been awarded every four years since the inaugural tournament in 1930 (except for 1942 and 1946).

Thirty-two different teams will compete toe-to-toe in a total of 64 games, played over the next month, from June 12 through July 13, 2014.

The World Cup is one of the world's most widely viewed sporting events. It is estimated that over 715 million people watched the final match of the 2006 FIFA World Cup held in Germany.

No matter whom you root for, the World Cup is a unique opportunity for people of all backgrounds to get together and to celebrate camaraderie, patriotism and World Cup soccer on big screen TVs.

Where will you watch games? What team are you cheering for?

Poll: Your family’s favorite sports team

Sports are a traditional part of family entertainment.

Allegiance to specific teams - which team you cheer for - is something generally passed down through the generations.

Baseball, basketball, football, soccer, rugby, cricket - so many teams with associations to certain cities. To New Yorkers, it will always be the "Brooklyn" Dodgers, even though they left for other parts long ago, while Chicagoans will always love "Da Bears."

We go with our families to sporting events. We support the same team, we console each other when they lose and celebrate when they win. Our family team is part of our shared family experience.

I remember going with my family to watch football games, and I imagine taking my own children, when they're old enough to appreciate it.

We're interested in learning if you have a family team. Does your family cheer on the same team? Or, do  you support rival teams? Let us know via the poll below.
