Thanksgiving Special: What’s on your table?
Thanksgiving Day is only a few weeks away and Americans are planning how to celebrate this important family holiday.
MyHeritage is also preparing holiday-related posts - and some surprises - so stay tuned during November.
A national holiday, Thanksgiving is observed in the United States - and worldwide wherever North American expats reside - on the fourth Thursday of November.
Every immigrant group to the US has also adopted the special day, which crosses all ethnic and religious lines.
"Turkey day" is a universal and delicious event, while the four-day holiday weekend also features football (not soccer!) games, major shopping days and great sales.
Thanksgiving Day's centerpiece is the lovingly-prepared feast on our tables, which we share with family and friends. People begin to plan holiday menus very early. Therefore, we invite the MyHeritage community to participate in our poll below:

MyHeritage.com: Now in Afrikaans!
Afrikaans is spoken in South Africa and Namibia
That’s correct, yet another language has been added to MyHeritage.com! From today, your family site can now be displayed in 38 languages thanks to the addition of Afrikaans.
This follows the recent introduction of Latvian to our language options, which was very well received by our Latvian community.
There are some 20 million Afrikaans speakers and we are pleased to provide MyHeritage.com and Family Tree Builder software to that large community.
Afrikaans is spoken primarily in South Africa and Namibia and has a considerable Dutch influence. The language was brought to the Cape by Protestant settlers in the 17th century and has had sustained popularity since. Afrikaans can also be used as an adjective; relating to the Afrikaner people and their culture.
We hope that you and your family will find this new language useful.

MyHeritage: Gen team heads to the ‘Heartland’
Springfield, Illinois is known as Abraham Lincoln's hometown and offers many research repositories for those interested in Lincoln and American history.
The MyHeritage genealogy team is heading this week to Springfield for the Federation of Genealogical Societies (FGS) 35th annual conference, in conjunction with the Illinois Genealogical Society (IGS), September 7-10. This year's theme is "Pathways to the Heartland."
Chief genealogist Daniel Horowitz and US genealogy advisor Schelly Talalay Dardashti will be staffing booth #107 in the exhibit hall. MyHeritage is one of more than 75 exhibitors in the 40,000-square-foot exhibit hall.
Daniel and I are looking forward to greeting MyHeritage users, so please come by to say hello. For those conference attendees who are not yet MyHeritage users, we'll be running our GEDCOM challenge again. Bring your family tree GEDCOM on a flash drive and we will find you long lost relatives with our exclusive Smart Matches technology!

Washington DC: MyHeritage team in action
The international genealogists descended on Washington DC and MyHeritage was there to meet them.
The 31st International Conference on Jewish Genealogy – August 14-19 – was organized by the Jewish Genealogical Society of Greater Maryland in conjunction with the International Association of Jewish Genealogical Societies. The annual conference is held in a different city each year, with Paris the venue for 2012.
Chief genealogist Daniel Horowitz, UK genealogy advisor Laurence Harris and US genealogy advisor Schelly Talalay Dardashti were ready for the more than 1,100 family history researchers and genealogists from the US and around the world.

The conference program featured more than 120 lectures, workshops and other events, including a concert. This event is one of the longest genealogy conferences, beginning on a Sunday and running through Friday.

MyHeritage: Now in Latvian
Another language was added to MyHeritage.com this week. Your family site can now be displayed in 37 languages. As you’ll see in your language options, Latvian is now available.
With more than 92,500 Latvian users, we received many requests to add Latvian to MyHeritage.com. We have great pleasure in finally being able to offer it as the first Baltic language in our list.

Help Us Save Millions of Census Records From Being Destroyed
The Australian Census is coming up on August 9th and millions of records are at risk of being destroyed forever, stopping future generations from benefitting from the information.
We need your help to stop this, even if you are not in Australia. Please read on to see how you can help.
The Australian Census Night is on August 9, and it is a big moment for all Australian citizens. Of all the questions on the census, the one garnering most attention is Question 60, which asks respondents if they want their paper response stored in the national archives, to be released publicly in 99 years' time or if they want it destroyed immediately.
Those of you familiar with historical information in England, Wales and Scotland, for example, will probably be thinking “What’s so special about that?” considering the fact that census data from those countries has been preserved since 1841.
In Australia, however, that hasn’t been the historical case. Instead, once the statistical data has been captured, the actual census records have been religiously destroyed.

Amy Winehouse’s Family Tree: a Humble Heritage
Two weeks ago the world was moved by the tragic death of Amy Winehouse, one of the best English singing talents ever. Many fans paid their respects, including singer George Michael who deemed her "the most soulful vocalist England has ever seen."

MyHeritage.com Interviews Anne Bradshaw, author of True Miracles with Genealogy
Anne Bradshaw is the author of the genealogy bestseller “True Miracles with Genealogy” and has written books for more than twenty years. She was born in England, is a spouse, a mother and grandmother, and has lived in the USA for many years. Besides writing books Anne has a personal blog and a website for her latest book.
MyHeritage.com talked to Anne about her interesting bestseller, her background and her kinship with the legendary singer Phil Collins.
For the people that didn't read your book could you tell us what it is about?
"True Miracles with Genealogy" contains fascinating family-history research stories. They’re the kind of stories where you know that ancestors were making things happen. Material came in from the USA and many other countries such as England, Canada, Australia, and the Netherlands. Each story is unique. It was inspiring to learn about the many different ways descendants discovered information.
