Grace Kelly: Actress, Princess

Actress Grace Kelly died 30 years ago today. The Hollywood beauty -who demonstrated glamour, elegance and class - became a real-life princess with her marriage to Prince Rainier of Monaco.

Grace Patricia Kelly was born in Philadelphia, to a family of Irish and German origin, on November 12, 1929. She was named after her father's sister who died as a child.

Her father - John Brendan "Jack" Kelly - was a successful businessman and triple Olympic rowing champion. He won two gold medals at the 1920 Olympics and another at the 1924 games.

Jack's parents - John Henry Kelly and Mary Anne Costello - emigrated from Ireland in 1869 and 1867, to the US, where they met and married. Continue reading "Grace Kelly: Actress, Princess" »

On July 2 Prince Albert of Monaco and Charlene Wittstock will tie the knot – in the first marriage of a reigning prince since Albert's father, Prince Rainer III married American actress Grace Kelly in 1956.
