Competition: Family Heirlooms

Congratulations to Sharon Black, winner of last week’s competition, who won a free data subscription for her and for her friend who helps with her research.

Today is our last competition in honor of Family History Month and we want to hear about your family history finds.

We all keep vintage treasures which carry exciting stories about our pasts. Regardless of whether it is a photo, a piece of jewelry, a family document or historical record, our family heirlooms are keys to our family history.

What are the most precious family heirlooms in your family? Do you have your grandmother’s antique hairbrush? How about a silly family photo?

Comment below - by October 31, 2013 - with the most unique heirloom you have, and we’ll choose one winner to receive a a free PremiumPlus and data subscription.

Remember, we’re looking for the most interesting, creative and original heirlooms.

Good luck!

Competition: Who in your family has helped you the most with your research?

We received many entries for last week’s Family History Month competition. Thank you to everyone that entered.

Congratulations to Sallie Shelton, winner of a PremiumPlus Family Site Subscription for her family site.

We loved what you wrote about the ancestor you'd like to meet:

My father's great grandfather, Francis Asbury Hammond. His life would make a blockbuster movie! Joined a whaling ship at a young age and during a storm a barrel rolled over him breaking his leg. The captain dumped him off on the "Sandwich Islands" to die. The natives nursed him back to health. His life includes multiple ocean voyages back and forth from America to the Sandwich Islands. He was in the CA gold rush, helped the Mormon Battalion build a road from from CA to UT, had many continuing adventures. Sadly, he died in Mancos, CO where he was drug to death by a horse leaving a large family. He was honored among many people as having ultimate honesty and integrity. He lead a life of service to others. Of course I would love to meet him, although I would be a little intimidated by this amazing man. I am honored to be his ancestor!

This week, we're holding another Family History Month competition to win a one-year free Data subscription to SuperSearch, our online search engine of billions of historical records. Continue reading "Competition: Who in your family has helped you the most with your research?" »

NGS Raffle Winners!

A few weeks ago, I had the opportunity to meet some of you at the National Genealogical Society (NGS) Conference in Salt Lake City, Utah. It was a well organized event, with many great speakers, product release announcements, with interesting companies furthering genealogical research, developing data protection and transforming family trees into works of art.  It was also a good chance to meet some of our users and those who are part of the international genealogy market. I staffed the MyHeritage booth with Daniel Horowitz, our Genealogy and Translations Manager, and we were happy with the enthusiasm shown towards our products. Together, we answered some of your questions, chatted about your family discoveries, and noted your thoughts about the strengths of our site and what users want to see as MyHeritage.com goes forward.
