Poll: Did you go on a ‘genea-journey’ this summer?

Our very own US genealogy adviser, Schelly Talalay Dardashti, coined a wonderful term: genea-journey.

What is a genea-journey?

A genea-journey could describe a journey to research your family history and discover new relatives and information about them, or it could be an actual physical trip to the places your ancestors lived.

Whether it is a journey confined to books, archives, online websites or family interviews, or a journey "home," the goal is the same: Learning more about your family.

The summer months are prime time for pursuing such hobbies, or going on vacations. Have you taken a genea-journey this summer? Or, are you now planning one for the future? Where has your genea-journey taken you in the past?

Prepared a family tree for a cousins 90th birthday celebration (his mother's mother's side only). All relatives from across the country were there and excited to see it. They filled in blanks with information that I did not have. Cousin was beside himself; wanted to weep. Could not believe he had that many relatives.

My maternal grandmother is almost a complete mystery to me. She died in 1930 when my mother was 7 yo. I have checked many sites for an obituary for her, and can find nothing. I am stumped, can anyone out there offer any suggestions? Anything would be very much appreciated.

Hi Margaret, have you tried SuperSearch, MyHeritage's family history search engine? (www.myheritage.com/research)
