Father’s Day: Share your father’s best advice

Father's DayFatherly advice: One day you're getting it, and the next, you're giving it.

Fathers are known as the bastions of advice, the go-to address for pearls of wisdom. They know what to say - in every situation - whether asked for an opinion or not!

Many of our life decisions and character traits are shaped by our fathers' advice.

As we approach Father's Day - Sunday, June 17 - we'd like you to share the best advice your father gave you or that you, as a father, have given to your own children.

Tell us in comments below or on our Facebook wall. Our favorite will receive a 1 year PremiumPlus MyHeritage subscription.

Let's use Father's Day to collect the best in paternal wisdom, to share with everyone.

Happy Father's Day!

  1. Ever the entrepreneur his advice "Always buy land because God isn't making it anymore"
  2. My Father told me to" always be my own person, that only I can decide what I am worth".
So true, and something I have passed onto my Grandchildren in an age where so many young adults let others decide for them.
  3. It doesn't have to cost a lot to make Dad feel like #1 on Father's Day. If he's like my dad, he'd rather spend time with you than have you spend money on …
  4. If your home seems empty after your children have married and moved away , just wait till you have to say goodbye to a beloved pet!
  5. My father always tells "Minor inaccuracies please your eyes and are a sign of handwork" when he screws up something :-) I don't know if I translated it correctly from Czech to English but I hope you get the point.
  6. There were two things my father told me: 1. You are the creator of your destiny, the world you live in, be courageous and brave enough to walk your own path and if you don't like what you created, change it.

2: My family were miners of coal, we dug deep into the earth to give people warmth for a pittance of pay. Be the miner of your soul. Dig deep within yourself to find the real warmth and love within yourself and you will discover riches you could never imagine.

I followed the advice and still do. I tried to pass it on to my own children but they thought it was weird. A couple of my grandchildren are more receptive to this advise, that has served me well.
  7. My father breathed his last when he was only 28. And I heard him murmuring to my mother on his deathbed, just few hours before he went to comma. I was very small then, too young to understand what he said. Since then she kept sombre all through her life of 65 years. The last she told me once was that she fulfilled what my dying father wanted of me... that letting me stand on my own feet.

    HAPPY FATHER'S DAY!!!
