1940 Census Update: 37 states and over 4 million images

We’ve now uploaded 26 states with over 4 million images of the 1940 U.S. Federal Census to our website www.myheritage.com/1940census. Search for free!

States ready for searching: Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Colorado , Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maine, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, Wisconsin and Wyoming.

These images are among the first to appear on the Internet as family historians around the world begin researching what may be the most significant, meaningful historical records release.

You can search these records in 22 languages including: Afrikaans, Danish, German, Spanish, French, Croatian, Italian, Lithuanian, Hungarian, Dutch, Norwegian, Polish, Portuguese, Rumanian, Slovakian, Finish, Swedish, Turkish, Greek, Russian, Ukrainian and Hebrew (more will be added soon).

This means that family history lovers all over the world can search the 1940 Census images, to find information about their American relatives who lived during this transformative historical period.
