StoryCorps: Germans in the Woods

A month ago we featured StoryCorps, a non-profit organization dedicated to preserving American oral history through the stories of ordinary people.

StoryCorps have recently begun combining some of their stories with short animations. Here is one that is both very beautiful and very sad, about an infantryman in the U.S. Army during the Second World War. We've embedded it here for you to watch.

  1. I FEEL THAT THE HISTORY IS REPEATED ALSO NOW IN 2010. WE STILL GET A LOT OF YOUNG MEN/SOLDIERS BACK FROM IRAK AND AFGANISTAN, WITH POST TRAUMATIC STREES OR IN A BODYBACK.SORRY BUT THAT IS THE WAY I FEEL IT.
PS. I HAVE A GRANDSON IN AFGANISTAN RIGHT NOW
    IB DAHL DENMARK
  2. A sad and terrible story, but one that is so important to tell. Perhaps the two will meet again some day in a better place.
I would like to believe that.

Thank you for posting this, Robert. Please give the brave man my best wishes that telling this story brings him peace and release.
  3. Hi Judy, unfortunately Joseph died last year. It's important these stories are recorded, because there are increasingly few veterans from WW2 remaining.
