First of all my Mom was the youngest of 21 children, she was no less intelligent then her brothers and sisiters before her. I am the youngest of 3, with 2 elder brothers. I will have to say that by the time I came along my Mom was too busy to spend time reading and playing with me, like she did with my oldest brother. "HOWEVER" I did learn things from my older siblings. Socially we are all the same. We are a product of our enviroment, how our families are, our households, our friends we have when we're young. How our parents are all plays into it. The CHOICES "WE" make as young adults all plays a part as well, even the schools we attended.

Out of 4 sons, 1 and 4 are most sociable, 3 and 4 are wealthiest, 3 is brilliant in computers, CTO of Large Multi-media, all are successful and nice people but place in family had nothing to do with it. Some of it is determined by the type of spouse, where they live, choices they have made, friends, etc. My husband is #10 in his family and highest IQ and highest education. He had a brother with 18 children and birth # had nothing to do with a Dr., Lawyer or bartender, or anything else that I have been able to see.

I was 2nd of 8, and the siblings still tease the youngest, but he is just as smart as the other 7. Gee, my great-aunts and uncles numbered 23. Gosh! the"poor" 23rd... if this is true.
Actually, the attitude of the home probably has more to do with IQ and/or success. This is adding another step to your equation. Many people with average IQ become more successful than those with the higher IQ. And, never underestimate the value of common sense and ambition.

No 2 people within the same family grow up with the exact same issues, i.e., experience from one year to another should prevent making the same mistakes. Times change, so one child might have the benefit of past experiences of the parents. A first-born has slightly more digfficulty trying anything new. Second and later see and learn from their older sibling(s).

Birth Order does not matter. All siblings are equal in rank but may be blessed with different talents or gifts. I am my Brother's keeper.
